Text is still the main media for communicating information.

A word processor allows you to enter and manipulate text using the keyboard, then output it to a printer. Some of the advantages of using a word processor are:
  • you can save your text, reload it and edit it without having to retype it again
  • you can alter the size of the text
  • 12 point 16 point 24 point

  • you can alter the style of the text

    plain text italic text bold text underline text

  • you can alter the font

    Times, Arial, Courier

  • Fonts can be divided into two main classes Serif and Sans Serif (without serif).

    Tsans serif font Tserif font

  • you can spell check your document
  • you can align your text to the left, right, centre or fully justify it
  • you can search and replace text
  • you can alter the page layout by inserting headers and footers.

Answer the following questions in your jotter.

1. Describe the appearance of fully justified text?

2. Which correctly spelled words may be highlighted as wrong by a spell checker?

3. Which wrongly spelled words may not be highlighted as an error by a spell checker?

4. Which kind of information may be inserted in a header or footer?

5. When might you use search and replace in a document?
