Task 18 - Capturing Images - Digital Cameras

A.M.D.G.

Digital cameras allow you the flexibility of taking a photograph then using it on the computer.

Digital Camera Hardware

A digital camera takes a photo through the lens by capturing light and projecting it on a grid of light sensitive elements. These elements convert the light into the coloured pixels that it stores in the camera’s memory. Once the camera’s memory is full, the camera can be connected to the computer and the pictures uploaded to the computer’s hard disc.

Digital Camera Software

Digital cameras often come with photo enhancing software that allows you to alter the brightness, contrast and colours of your photographs, as well as allowing you to apply a range of filters that can alter the content of the photograph. These photo-enhancing programs work in a similar way to bitmapped painting packages.

As you will be taking the photographs, copyright is not a real issue, but be careful if you include people in the photo that you are not infringing their personal rights. Another problem might occur if you include products in your pictures. For example, if you photograph a person drinking a bottle of cola, and use that photo in an advert, then you might find the company who make the cola not too happy.
