As
the previous task showed, high-resolution colour graphics can take up
a large amount of memory. With one A4 page taking over 20 megabytes
of disc space, there has to be some way of making the files smaller.
One way of doing this is to compress the data. The Joint Photographic
Experts Group (JPEG) invented the most common still image compression
format. JPEG file compression reduces the file size by about eighty
percent. There will be a little loss of picture quality, but the storage
reduction makes it worth it.
Using
the Internet for reference, copy and complete the following table of
different graphics file formats:
