Banks R Us has 20 branches located throughout Scotland and a head office in Glasgow.  Each branch has a local area network (LAN), and the branches and head office are connected by a wide area network (WAN).

 

a)                  Explain how the increased use of computer networks in the banking industry has brought benefits to:

i)                    customers

ii)                   staff.

 

b)                  As a result of increased use of networking, the bank has long-term plans to close many of its branches.  Customers complain that they will miss the opportunity to talk “face to face” with bank staff.

i)                    Describe a technological solution to this difficulty.

ii)               Describe the specific hardware and software each customer would require (in     addition to a computer) to implement your solution.
